Rocko's Modern Afterlife Review

rocko's modern afterlife
Rating: 4/5

Synopsis: When a zombie apocalypse hits O-Town, Rocko barricades himself and Spunky in the comfort of his home. However, as the endemic spreads, the zombified residents break into Rocko's house, forcing him to team up with his uninfected friends to find a cure.

My Thoughts: The plot itself is not particularly original and, at first glance, feels like yet another morbid deconstruction of a popular franchise à la Afterlife with Archie and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Contrary to expectations, this comic mini-series retains the main series's and cartoon's comical tone and uses its apocalyptic setting to take subtle jabs at topical issues such as the influence of social media as well as misinformation spread by fake news
and alt-right organizations like the men's rights movement. The art is as ultra cartoony and over-the-top as it should be, and some of the risqué humor is still there including this little gem:

Final Thoughts: Rocko's Modern Afterlife is a wacky, satiric romp worth looking into for any fan of the show and main comic series searching for a more humorous take on current society.
